Full Mouth Dental Implant
Considering a full mouth implant treatment ? Here's what you should know!
Full mouth implants are nothing less than a full life transition. It’s no wonder that full mouth implants are gaining rapid popularity among the millennials. But before going in, lets take a look at what dental implants are.
Dental implants are nothing but replacement treatment of a lost tooth.Implants are composed of 3 components of which the first part is the fixture or the titanium screw like part that is surgically placed inside the jaw by an expert with proper orientations and guide. This form replaces the natural root of your teeth allowing for more long lasting and rigid functionality of the artificial teeth that are being replaced on a later stage. After the fixture heals within the bone, that is osseo integrated with the bone completely, which takes another 2-3 months usually, the connection and the artificial crowns are placed. These can be either cement retained, or screw retained.
What to check for, before undergoing the full mouth rehabilitation treatment ?
Age: To be an ideal candidate for any dental implant it is always recommended that the individual should have attained maximum jaw/bone growth. This is imperative in assessing the proper and stable positioning for the implant. Hence it is essential that the subject is at least 18years or above for receiving an implant so that the position and occlusion form does not alter as the patient’s jaw grows in the future
Gender: Males and females are equally suitable to receive an implant
General Health: Your dentist will run few routine tests to make sure your health conditions suit with the minimum requirements for a full mouth implant surgery . It is not possible in a few cases like uncontrolled diabetes, cardiac diseases, autoimmune diseases, hereditary bone defects(fibrodysplasia) etc.
Habits: Habits like smoking, tobacco does not directly cause any harm in surgical aspect, but if the quality of gums are below the margin implants cannot last long a sit can otherwise.
Diet: It is advisable to follow a very soft diet ,usually solid or semi solid food intake after total extraction.Eating hard food with gums can cause constant remodelling which can alter the treatment plan at the end of the treatment and this causes the implant to fail irrespective of how qualified your dentist is.
What to do before your full mouth surgery ?
Diet : Eat healthy. Have a soft diet of boiled veggies, milkshakes, fruits and drink plenty of water
Follow your regular medications: Do not stop your routine medications unless your dentist asks you to
